Great to meet teachers and students from Westgate Hill Primary in Parliament

Great to meet teachers and students from Westgate Hill Primary in Parliament this week. Fantastic questions from the young people who really care about their city, country & the planet. The future of Newcastle will be safe in their hands.

Today marks 75 years of the NHS. To all those who work and have dedicated their lives to the NHS, thank you!???? Thanks to @NewcastleHosps, one of the busiest and most successful teaching NHS trusts in the country. Convicted for shoplifting with recommended sentence of 15 months but imprisoned for 17 years!

Aged 17 my constituent Danny was convicted of shoplifting with a recommended sentence of 15 months. 17 years later he has only just been granted parole. I asked the Minister for cross-party discussions on IPP reform, w all voices heard & proper probation support a prerequisite. pic.twitter.com/EbP4mNFjnx — Chi Onwurah ???? (@ChiOnwurah) June 28, 2023
Ukraine’s Telecoms Heroes

I put on @UKParliament record my admiration, as a network #engineer, for the work of Ukrainian operator @TwiyKyivstar to maintain service ???????? And I asked the Minister why frozen Russian assets couldn't be used to pay for this investment into critical national infrastructure? pic.twitter.com/dlQe1fHe3m — Chi Onwurah ???? Government must do much more to help Veterans to get good jobs

The #ArmedForces teach valuable skills, embedded in the Army's Holistic Approach to Transition But 50% more #veterans are claiming Universal Credit as some struggle to get good jobs. I asked the Govt why they have halved the number of Veterans Champions in our job centres pic.twitter.com/hUZugAOO4v — Chi Onwurah ???? (@ChiOnwurah) June 22, 2023
Active Travel ness Government funding and must include reliable bus services

I'm pleased that @NewcastleCC's E-scooters trial has passed a million miles of use in and around Newcastle. That's why it's a real pity that the Government has slashed funding for active transport, and left funding for buses, cycling and walking options in limbo. pic.twitter.com/WoIpycN6Cd — Chi Onwurah ???? People are being left behind – Bank Branches disappearing and made to pay to take out their own cash

Constituents in #NewcastleCentral should not be paying to take out cash during a cost-of-living crisis. Yet, under the Tories, access to free cash points and in-person banking services is declining. Labour will give the FCA the power to protect face-to-face banking???? pic.twitter.com/Y0jkEEiZFb — Chi Onwurah ???? (@ChiOnwurah) June 21, 2023
Universal Credit Deductions – impacting on 120,000 children in the North East

120,000 children in the #NorthEast are impacted by Universal Credit deductions. I asked the Minister if deducting funds from my constituent, a Mother of two young children, who were then forced to use a food bank, is evidence of a working system. He didn't answer the question. pic.twitter.com/2yNYDEzZJO — Chi Onwurah ???? (@ChiOnwurah) June 20, […]
Support for Elswick Swimming Pool

.@ElswickPool is a vital enabler of mental and physical health for communities in #Newcastle. ???????? But like many leisure centres, they’re struggling to make ends meet. The Tory Minister claims money is available but our pool in Elswick has not received any⬇️ pic.twitter.com/UP1lhuWRoH — Chi Onwurah ???? (@ChiOnwurah) June 15, 2023 Chi Onwurah Elswick […]
HORIZON Europe – British Science still locked out

It has been 127 weeks of uncertainty, delay, and broken promises since the Tories us out of #HorizonEurope costing research & jobs. I asked the Minister if, as reported, demands for a future failure discount were stalling negotiations on rejoining Horizon. He wouldn't answer. pic.twitter.com/T3Zve22KDn — Chi Onwurah ????
