Job Details
Working with the senior caseworker & Parliamentary Assistant providing communications & casework support. Acting independently to provide information and support to constituents on a range of issues making appropriate representations on their behalf, and running a weekly advice session. A driving licence is desirable, and the role may involve some evening and weekend work. Training, guidance & support will be provided.
Key responsibilities
• Dealing confidently and sensitively with constituents face-to-face & logging casework, taking prompt action & monitoring updates to share with constituents
• Liaising with agencies/organisations to gather relevant information to resolve cases
• Drafting responses to constituents, organisations & stakeholders
• Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant guidelines/legislation & GDPR compliance
• Assisting with surgeries, meetings & local campaigns on issues relevant to the constituency & understanding local or emerging issues to update the MP
• Produce casework reports
• Policy and communications: press releases, monitor/maintain social media presence
• Other duties as and when required – assisting other colleagues & communicating appropriately with internal & external contacts.
Skills & Experience
• Excellent verbal, written communication, research & organisational skills to manage own workload & prioritise tasks
• Ability to work independently/as part of a team in a fast-moving and multi-tasking environment, interacting professionally with colleagues, constituents, & stakeholders
• Competent use of IT – casework management system & Microsoft Office
• An understanding of the issues affecting constituents in Newcastle Central
• Good customer service with a helpful & sympathetic manner
• Experience of managing a caseload in a similar professional context
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party
