Newcastle Central MP Chi Onwurah has secured a meeting between the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Michael Gove and Wylam Brewery to discuss the impact of Brexit on their business.
Chi said “The European Union accounted for half of Wylam Breweries business in 2020 but since the Governments bungled EU trade deal Wylam’s beers have been left in ports or returned to them. The Official Government advice is for Wylam to set up a European office effectively moving josb from Newcastle to the EU!”
Mr Gove stated that he ‘absolutely will’ meet with Chi and Wylam Brewery and Chi is currently in touch with him to organise the meeting
Wylam Brewery responded saying “We thank Chi for raising this with the Secretary of State and await contact from him after his agreement to meet with us to discuss and understand the real issues independent businesses are facing post Brexit”
