Press Release: Chi concerned over West End fast food stand off

Newcastle MP concerned as West End residents face further fast food stand off

Following her support for last years ‘Stop the Woppa’ campaign Newcastle Central MP Chi Onwurah is concerned that plans to turn the old West End police station into a Burger King have been revived.

The developer has submitted another application to transform the old police station into a Burger King following last year’s objection. This has upset and angered many residents who successfully campaigned to stop this last year.

Chi said, “The West End of Newcastle already has a huge number of fast food outlets. Residents complain to me regularly about the litter that they cause. We also know the North East has some of the highest rates of obesity in the country and all the consequences for health and quality of life.  This location is very close to a primary school at a time when we need to be promoting a healthier start in life for the next generation of Geordies.”
