As Parliament is back tomorrow we wont go ahead with the Newcastle People’s Parliament this Sunday – let me know if its something you’d like me to do another time!
A People’s Parliament, convened by Chi Onwurah in conjunction with Another Europe is Possible, NE4NE, Newcastle Unites, Tyneside Irish Centre ,Newcastle United Fans Foodbank, and the UK Schools Climate Network North East is being held at Northern Stage on Sunday 29th September at 1pm.
The government has made the unprecedented decision to shut down Parliament for five weeks. This stops MPs holding the government to account and raising constituents’ concerns. This People’s Parliament event is being held in response, and everyone is welcome to come along to discuss the issues that are not being debated in parliament during prorogation. The NHS Education Brexit Climate Change, Newcastle United…whatever people wish to raise.
The issues raised, questions asked, and opinions voiced will be recorded in a report, and Chi will look to raise them in parliament where possible. There will be petition for parliament to be reopened, and we will look to take some votes on the key issues raised.
This is not a party-political event, citizens from across the political spectrum are invited to attend, the aim is to give people a space to discuss politics in an open and respectful space. This will be a forum style audience led event, and will be treated as a ‘special surgery’ for Chi to take back what is said to Parliament.
No tickets needed.
