Chi at Croke Park in Dublin
Chi success on getting Tyneside Gaelic Athletics Club record put straight
Chi Onwurah MP for Newcastle Central last year visited Croke Park, Dublin.
She discussed the North East’s participation in Gaelic Athletics and the fact it was unrepresented on the Wall of Fame at Croke Park.
Chi was aware that the Tyneside Gaelic Football Club were past champions, but as they play in the Yorkshire League, they were listed under Yorkshire.
Chi said:
“ Cú Chulainn’s GAC are the Gaelic Football Club of North-East England, based in Newcastle upon Tyne.
“I In 2011 the club won the All Britain Championship.
“ I have now been assured that they will be correctly recorded as being a Tyneside Club when the Wall of Fame at is updated this summer.
Chi has received a letter from the Gaelic Athletic Association to confirm that the record on the Wall of Fame will be corrected in the summer.
Chi has achieved this policy change, just as a debate is to be held tomorrow (14 March 2016) night at the Tyneside Irish Centre on ‘ was St Patrick a Geordie ?
