Chi Onwurah MP for Newcastle Central has attacked the Budget as handing the rich money whilst taking away from pensioners and ordinary working people.

She said:

“   Last year 5,438 additional people in the North East were forced to claim unemployment benefit due to lack of jobs.

“  Now the Tory Chancellor is handing a massive tax break for the 5,000 people in the Region  earning over £150,000 per year.

“  Whilst in Newcastle some 5,135 people will lose substantial amounts in Tax Credits, as couples with children who currently work between 16 and 24 hours will face losing up to £3,870 per household from April.

“  The priority for this budget should have been to get the economy moving again and create jobs.

Chi says we have been repeatedly told we are all in this together, but as with all rules there are Tory exceptions – those earning more than £150,000.
