An exhibition opens next week in the House of Commons, Westminster, including artwork from children at Wingrove Primary School in Newcastle.
The exhibition is part of the Send My Sister to School campaign in which over half a million young people in the UK took part, to support girls’ education worldwide.
Chi Onwurah MP for Newcastle Central said:
“ Some weeks ago I visited Wingrove Primary and It was very moving and
inspiring to receive the ‘sister ‘ messages and artwork from the children of the school .
“ The children and staff are rightly concerned that around 67 million children in the developing world are missing out on education.
“ In parts of the world a disproportionate number of them are girls.
“ For girls, education is the key to improving their own health, reducing infant mortality and to enabling them to participate in society.
