Chi takes up a new shadow ministerial role in the Cabinet Office team

Chi Onwurah MP for Newcastle Central has been asked by Ed Miliband to take up a new shadow ministerial role in labour’s Cabinet Office team.

Rt Hon Ed Miliband MP, Leader of the Labour Party said:

“ Chi Onwurah has done a great job on the Shadow Business, Innovation and Skills team, and is now stepping up into an enhanced role at the Cabinet Office.   She continues to do a fantastic job of standing up for the needs of the people of Newcastle upon Tyne Central and making sure that their voice is heard in Parliament, and she remains a great asset to the Labour Party.”

Chi Onwurah said:

“I am sad to leave the BIS Shadow Ministerial team. However the more wide ranging role in the Shadow Cabinet Office encompasses pressing areas where this Government is failing in cyber security, social entrepreneurship and open government. It will give me the opportunity to contribute to key areas of policy development as we move towards the election as helping make the machinery of Government more effective for the next Labour Government.”
