Working class people, women and people of colour most impacted by extra costs of getting qualifications

Most PhD students take longer than the time they are funded to complete their research, and some don’t even earn a living wage. This impacts working class people, women and people of colour most. Minister admitted the government doesn’t even bother to monitor equity of PhD completion HANSARD: https://questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-questions/detail/2022-06-07/13705

Government fails to promote trade with Commonwealth

Next week’s Commonwealth Heads of Government CHOGM2022 meeting in Rwanda is an excellent opportunity to promote trade. Diaspora communities in #Newcastle & across UK play a key role in growing that trade with their familial & friendship links. I asked the Trade Minister what targeted support they could expect…. Unfortunately I got the impression she […]
Backlog Britain is hitting Newcastle Central hard

Backlog Britain is hitting Newcastle Central hard with long waits for responses, passports, asylum decisions etc. Yet Home Office is spending over £100million on its Rwanda policy, as inhumane as it is workable. I told the Home Secretary she needs to fix her Department not hide behind refugees! As always the Home Secretary wouldn’t take […]
Government fails to fund repairs for social housing after Storm Arwen

Many constituents contacted me about #StormArwen & delays in repairs. Government admit they provided no extra funds to maintain housing standards in the face of unprecedented storm damage, after 12 yrs of austerity. They’re not fixing the roof when the sun shines, just selling it off! HANSARD: https://questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-questions/detail/2022-06-06/13113
Home Office failing as17,000 emails wait for a response for MP’s constituents.

The Minister says that the Home Office terrible performance in responding to MP’s emails is due to crises in Afghanistan and Ukraine, but their figures show only 52% responses on target months before the Afghan crisis. 17,000 emails awaiting a response for MP’s constituents. Government states they were not involved in the sale of NUFC but…..

In response to my written question the Government have confirmed that they were not involved in “commercial discussions on the sale of Newcastle United Football Club” whilst saying Ministers “kept in touch with both parties involved in the potential acquisition” ???
