Friday was World Sickle Cell Day – caring work at the RVI
Friday was World Sickle Cell Day and I spent time with the Haemoglobinopathy team at the RVI and heard about their work caring for over 320 local patients. Raising awareness and strengthening research are essential to improving treatment and long-term outcomes.

Today Newcastle’s Swing Bridge turns 150! A proud symbol of the skill and ambition that built the North East. I’ve been working hard to build momentum to restore it, with backing from Gvmnt and stakeholders, because our industrial heritage must be preserved and brought to life.
The City Baths
I met the Chief Finance Officer of Newcastle City council to discuss the concerns of many constituents that the beloved Newcastle cultural icon and leisure facility, the City Baths, was threatened by the operator’s demise. They are working to secure a new operator as quickly as possible so the Baths remain open.
