Carers have gone to extraordinary lengths over the past year to look after and support those they care for, with many caring around the clock often without any breaks. This has come at a huge personal cost, and left many exhausted, feeling burnt-out and increasingly worried about the future.

Many carers are worried about their ability to continue to care without access to more support and the opportunity to take meaningful breaks.

Carers UK and the other charities supporting Carers Week 2021 are calling on the UK Government to urgently provide an additional £1.2 billion of funding for carers’ breaks, so all carers providing significant hours of care can take a break. Specifically, they are calling for a £50 a week increase in personal budgets in England, and additional funding for the devolved administrations, which could be used flexibly by carers for essential breaks to enable them to continue caring.
