I am so pleased to confirm that the Immigration Minister has written to me to say the Home Office will pay to return my constituent to his home in Newcastle – ‘as a gesture of goodwill’.
I’d like to thank everyone who has highlighted my constituent’s case as this undoubtedly contributed to this welcome resolution.
It appears that the key issue was that the Home Office did not believe my constituent has the documentation to prove his residence in the UK. There are obviously lessons to be learnt and it is my strong view that no-one should have to go through such a distressing experience. However my priority now is reuniting my constituent with his loved ones in his final weeks. I hope that his return will be arranged at the earliest possible opportunity. Thanks once again to everyone who supported him
