Small businesses and entrepreneurs from Newcastle today met with Mayor of London Sadiq Khan to offer their thoughts on how best to improve economic connections between Newcastle and London.
At a roundtable convened by Newcastle Central MP Chi Onwurah, attendees discussed the importance of links between the two cities and how to strengthen them before presenting the outcomes of their discussion to Mr. Khan.
Attendees included Paul Lancaster, founder of Newcastle Startup Week, and Sarah Stewart, Chief Executive of NewcastleGateshead Initiative.
Ms. Onwurah commented:
“A growing economy needs to deliver jobs in both Newcastle and London. It was a real pleasure to welcome the Mayor of London to our historic Mining Institute and meet some of the Newcastle businesses of the future.
“Our tech economy is the fastest-growing outside of the capital, and our two great cities can only benefit from closer links.”
Mr. Khan said:
“Newcastle and London are connected by more than a train line. It’s great to meet local businesses and hear how best to promote business links.”
