Chi takes up DLA delays
Chi Onwurah MP for Newcastle Central today questioned the government minister
in Parliament on the excessive delays in applications and appeals for Disability Living Allowance
Chi told the House of Commons:
“ A constituent of mine had to wait two years to have his DLA appeal reassessed,
causing him immense hardship. They found in his favour.
“ He is not alone. Newcastle Citizens Advice Bureau and Newcastle Welfare rights each
receive two or three new cases of DLA assessment delays every single week.
She asked the minister:
“ How will the Minister ensure that the PIP roll-out will not see the same vulnerable groups
subject to more delays?
Ms Onwurah was disappointed with the minister’s immensely complacent reply which merely recorded that DLA delays had remained at the same high level over several years.
